The Salt River Landfill accepts large appliances such as stoves, water heaters, dish washers, refrigerators, washers and dryers, etc.
However, there are special requirements for refrigerated appliances, which consist of: refrigerators, freezers, room air conditioners, packaged terminal heat pumps, dehumidifiers, ice makers, vending machines, and drinking water coolers.
The Landfill must verify that the refrigerant has been evacuated or pay a $10 per appliance evacuation fee in addition to the applicable weight based tipping fee. Verification of refrigerant evacuation includes signed statements, name, address and location of the person who removed the refrigerant, and the date of recovery or a contract that refrigerant will be removed prior to delivery. It is illegal to vent certain types of compounds into the environment and no person may recover refrigerant unless the person has been certified and has the proper recovery equipment. |
